Bikes Using Harley Davidson Parts
Mark's Punsun Diesel Harley Sportster
He we see Mark's Harley Davidson conversion. Complete with Punsun V twin engine this bike made its first public appearance at the 2008 Big Knock Diesel Bike rally in West Sussex. The drive is CVT.
The Punsun engine from China is becoming a favourite amongst builders of diesel motorcycles.
A.E.D. Corp Common Rail Diesel Motorcycle
I am indebted
to Nick Hirsch for supplying me with details regarding the Advanced Engine Development
Corp Common Rail Diesel Motorcycle project. I'm told the107-in cubed V-twin
engine is now installed in a 1988 FXRS Harley-Davidson MC and is being operated
on the street. Although not fully developed in terms of electronic engine event
control, i.e., injection timing, fuel delivery, turbo boost, it runs well and
sounds great. Things are still progressing at a steady pace. The
engine is an S&S unit.

The picture taken shows the bike from the Turbo
side and I'm told the engine has changed in some detail since the original SAE
paper was written about it's development (which started in 2004). It still includes
a 23 K PSI Bosch common rail fuel injection system with custom electronic engine
control, VNT turbocharger with intercooler, and has 16.5-1 compression ratio.
AED run the machine on Biodiesel (B20) and plan to publicize it more in the
near future but at this time, commercialization plans have not been drawn up.
AED Corp has done
extensive R&D work for the U.S. Military to explore advanced heavy fuel
burning in it's future vehicles.
Terry Martin's Diesel Harley
Below we see Terry Martin's 1977 Harley Davidson Diesel Softail FXRS. The engine is a 950cc Briggs & Stratton/Daihatsu. Many thanks to Terry for supplying the details below.

I'm a diesel mechanic and have wanted to build a diesel bike for several years, but the diesels with enough power to be road worthy were to heavy. After Yanmar, Kubota etc. started building minidiesels I started checking the horsepower and torque of the engines and planning on how to attach it to a bike. My first engine was Kubota, but I was disappointed with the performance. Top speed was about 60mph with no passing power. I then found the Briggs and Stratton engine(Diahatsu). This engine performs great. It will carry me(270lbs) and my wife at 65mph with plenty of power to pass. Top speed 82 . The gearing in the bike is the same as a Harley Davidson softail as a matter of fact the primary belt drive, transmission and frame is Harley Davidson aftermarket parts.
Harold's Harley
Y'know, I just knew there had to be a Diesel Harley Davidson somewhere in the world and here it is! Harold Benich from Albion, Pennsylvania, put together a bike which he runs on a mixture of normal and biodiesel. He says biodiesel gives him a little more power and improves MPG. His new website can be found here.

Harold's Harley. Running this bike on Biodiesel gives more power and MPG.
Indian Diesel Trike
I'm told the three-wheeler is a Harley-Davidson Servicar. Originally powered by a 750 side valve motor, same as used in the WLA. This one has clearly been fitted with some sort of Diesel engine. The Picture is from India.
The EDIMO Smart Diesel Project
This bike made a showing at the 2005 Hamm Diesel Motorcycle Rally. They had trouble sorting the electronics out to run the Smart Engined project bike but got some help from the boatbuilders here. The engine is a Smart 800cc unit while the gearbox is Harley D.
